Character History and Personality:

Riddler isn’t the same man he was when he first arrived in Passages. While he has feigned and attempted reformation in the past before, it’s never been as earnest as it is now. He still hasn’t given up the puzzles, riddles or questions, but hasn’t resorted to turning them into death traps. If anything, he's taught himself to use his own brilliance to help the good fight, even if his methods are always a bit questionable or cold. What started out as a fear of a cycle he had been repeating for over sixty years turned into love for a criminal's daughter. The need to find a new game and keep Stephanie in his life has brought him closer to helping Gotham instead of dangling it over a spike pit.

But, that's jumping a little ahead.

Edward Nashton Nigma arrived in the DC door as a patchwork man. He wasn't just one Riddler continuity, but four, five, twelve stitched together in true comic book canon fashion. He remembered his tiny, dirty apartment with his dead mother and abusive father in the twenties. He remembered wasting his youth as a carnie in the now abandoned seaside Funland. He remembered trying to break into the underground crime circles with his riddles and his smarmy smirks in the faces of bloated goons and suspicious mobsters. He remembered Batman. He remembered Arkham City. He remembered Arthur Brown. He remembered almost dying. He remembered Hush. He remembered getting stabbed in Bludhaven. He remembered the neck tattoo.

There was so much in his riddled brain that the only thing he could really make out was that he was the man made out of question marks trapped inside of Arkham. He made fast friends with Crane, hacked their way out of the asylum and began a spree of rogue crimes. He helped facilitate one of the most organized three man band rogue attacks with Crane and the Joker, throwing the Bat Family's life into chaos and barely escaping Batgirl with a broken jaw and a promise to pay her back.

But, the truth was that Eddie was starting to realize he was decades older than his body looked and he had spent so much time doing the same thing over and over again that he wanted a change. At a Halloween party, he was warped into a machine, a toy that gave plastic flowers for quarters and crawled towards his greed even when his body was smashed. He begged for an end, for a snap of circuitry. The night left him with a panic attack and after a conversation with his foe, Batgirl, he started to wonder if they were closer in understanding than anyone else in this new Gotham.

They started tentatively working together. Helping Batman when he was overtaken by Crane's toxin and finding the formula to Joker's laughing gas. Going into full betrayal against the men he had worked with in the pursuit of finding something new. Eddie called her a partner and that never, ever stopped being true. That Christmas, with exchanged gifts of a circuit board necklace and a ring full of costume colors, they went through trials of lives without each other and decided they were a lot happier together.

The following year was filled with ups and downs, but Eddie Nigma Nashton always had Stephanie. He shared his mind with many people through the door, but none of them gave him enough time with his blonde bat. Despite that, the two helped each other become stronger. Stephanie became a confident and effective Batgirl while Eddie worked with the Dark Knight to save Gotham countless times. They might have encountered plenty of scrutiny, but Eddie always had Stephanie and that was more than enough.

A few months after their one year anniversary, he was zapped into a different plane of existence. A puzzle he couldn't think his way out of: Earth-3. Here, with Stephanie by his side, he found that the entire universe was flipped upside-down. Good guys were bad guys, bad guys were good guys and the good guys were losing horribly. He joined up with the resistance and spent five years of his life fighting a war against the Syndicate with Stephanie at his side. Their relationship grew stronger, despite hurdles and trouble thrown their way and just as they were sure they lost the war against the Syndicate for good, they were zapped back to this Gotham losing only a minute of their lives there. But, for Eddie, it had been five years.

He spent a year in his old Gotham, his favorite Gotham and got married to the love of his life, Stephanie. But, things didn't work out and between PTSD, the inability to have children and general bat family drama, they ended up falling apart. He asked for a divorce at the end of that year in grief and with a lack of hope for anything and then promptly got sucked back into his old Gotham. There his gig as detective was still golden and he spent three years proving to himself that he could be a lighter grey without Stephanie or any of the bats as his friends.

Still, he desperately missed home. Home which would always be the Gotham that had made him into the man he is today.

Journal/Key: Modern black tablet thing with green blocky block text. Dark, green plastic key similar to a zoo key. The end is shaped like a question mark.

Storylines;

Normal people: After fighting for five years, Eddie wants a slice of the normal life. Normal friends would be good for him.
Rogue buddies: The gallery. People that he's very fond of, but tend to get him in plenty of trouble if he follows along with their games.
Heroes: People who were born heroes that gradually learnt to trust Eddie. Friends and working partners.
